Protein-Packed Overnight Oats That Keep You Full for Hours
One of the best and most nutritious breakfasts to cook at home is overnight oats.

Perhaps you’ve tried Oats Overnight before to save time, understandably β but haven’t been drawn to an eight-pack costing you an expensive $39 on Amazon.
But what if you can set aside just 10 extra minutes to make the perfect recipe at just a fraction of the cost? I have the perfect overnight oats meal prep that I’ve been using for the last couple of years. They come in handy on a morning when you need something satiating and specifically are packed with protein and fiber.
The Overnight Oats Recipe To Follow
Here is my Overnight oats recipe and the amount of each ingredient I use while mixing everything into a bowl, except the peanut butter (save that for when pouring into your serving cup or glass; I’ll explain below). You can turn this into two servings (as I do) or just one.
- Half a cup of organic oats
- Two tablespoons of Chia Seeds
- A handful of sugar-free chocolate chips
- One scoop of chocolate protein powder
- One tablespoon of cocoa powder
- One to two tablespoons of maple syrup or raw honey
- Three-quarters to a full cup of water or almond milk
- One tablespoon of Greek yogurt
- Two tablespoons of Trader Joe’s honey-flavored peanut butter
Key Steps
When making this recipe, there are a few things you’ll want to pay closer attention to, ensuring that these come out ideal.

First off, I use a four-inch cocktail glass to make mine. While many recipes will recommend using a mason jar, these can be tough to clean due to the narrow inside space. Cocktail glasses are wider β so consider using one of these, which can be bought at Dollar Tree. I use one that spans four inches in height for this recipe.
Once you have all the dry ingredients mixed, make sure that you eyeball the water or the milk. I recommend starting off with three-quarters and adding more as needed. Adding too much will make it too watery and not adding enough will result in dryness. Find the right balance.
Also, if you have a Trader Joe’s near you β buy its honey peanut butter β it makes a difference. Upon pouring, put half the mix into your glass, add the peanut butter on top, then add 50 percent of the rest of the mix and put peanut butter in between that.
And of course, make sure that you let these sit in the fridge for at least several hours covered in Saran Wrap before consuming, if not using a mason jar cap. These overnight oats will taste like a healthier version of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Extra Steps
These next steps are a bonus and will make them taste that much better. For one, when ready to serve, I like to add more chocolate chips on top.
The other thing is adding a dairy cream product. Whipped cream works well β but I personally find that cold foam works fine too. I always have the latter in hand since I’m an iced coffee drinker.
You can also add more peanut butter if you find certain areas to be too dry.
But overall, this is a great breakfast. I usually eat half the cup of the overnight oats and save the rest for another day. Overnight oats will last three to five days in the fridge.
Other overnight oat recipes combine more fruits β but give this variety a shot. Feel free to get creative and add some of your other personal pantry or grocery favorites. For example, I’ve tried this recipe with a little pumpkin spice βΒ it makes the flavor even more satisfying for the fall.
